When shooting a photograph, keep a few things in mind. Ask yourself some questions and try to answer them before and after you take a photograph.

Questions to ask

What technical aspects of this photograph (such as lighting, focus, print quality, etc.) do you feel are good or excellent?

What technical aspects do you feel distract from the quality or effectiveness of the photograph?

What artistic qualities (such as composition, impact, mood, etc.) do you see in this photograph?

In what ways do you feel this photograph is artistically flawed?

What might the photographer have done to make this photograph better?

Comments: This is a sheet Mr. Binkley handed out to the class at the beginning of the year to use as an outline when shooting, and to remind us to view our images and critique our own work, both while we're shooting and seeing things through the view finder, and after we've already taken an image, in order to better our work.
